Résumé. – Les rois hellénistiques et leurs φίλοι furent parfois représentés dans les sources sous la forme chorale, au même titre que ce qui s’observe dans certaines cités, Athènes la première, où le chœur servait à mettre en forme, ponctuellement, la ou les communauté(s) et à la ou les faire exister selon certains standards civiques. C’est ainsi comme paradigme que l’on envisagera, dans cet article, le schème choral qui, appliqué aux rois et à leur élite, permettait de décrire mais également de faire advenir certaines configurations (idéales ?) des monarchies hellénistiques. L’enjeu est, bien sûr, de ne pas occulter l’ambivalence fondamentale d’une structure chorale qui était à la fois au service du charisme royal mais qui disait également la manière dont fonctionnaient des systèmes politiques fondés sur l’amitié, le franc-parler et la collaboration. Car derrière la fiction, c’est la réalité (complexe) du fonctionnement de ces royautés qui, croit-on, apparaît, tiraillées qu’elles étaient entre la recherche du consensus et la possibilité, toujours présente, d’une désunion de la communauté politique des φίλοι.
Abstract. – The Hellenistic kings and their φίλοι were sometimes represented in the sources in choral form, in the same way as in the cities, first of all in Athens, where the choir was used to shape, on various occasions, the community or the communities, and to make it or them exist according to certain civic standards. As a result, this article will explore the choral scheme as a paradigm, which, applied to kings and their elites, made it possible to describe but also to instantiate certain (ideal?) configurations of Hellenistic monarchies. The challenge is, of course, not to obscure the fundamental ambivalence of a choral structure that was not just at the service of royal charisma, but also dictated the way in which political systems based on friendship, frankness and collaboration functioned; for behind the fiction, it is the (complex) reality of the functioning of these monarchies that seems to emerge, torn as they were between the search for consensus and the ever-present possibility of disunity of the political community of φίλοι.
