Résumé. – Le forum de Trajan était dans l’Antiquité reconnu comme un des joyaux de la Rome antique (cf. Ammien Marcellin, XVI, 10, 15-16), mais il est aujourd’hui ruiné. Cependant dès le XVIIIe siècle on a cherché à le représenter dans son état originel. Cette recherche s’est affinée au cours des siècles suivants. Cet article propose de suivre ces étapes et l’évolution de la représentation d’un ensemble architectural que les fouilles récentes ont encore modifié.
Abstract. – The Forum of Trajan was in Antiquity recognized as one of the jewels of ancient Rome (Ammien Marcellin, XVI, 10, 15-16) but it is now ruined. However since the XVIIIth century people have tried to represent it in its original state. Restoration proposals were refined over the following centuries. This article proposes to follow these stages and the evolution of the representation of an architectural complex that recent excavations have further modified.
