Abstract. – A new hypothesis (diversium) is suggested in an attempt to explain a very enigmatic and often commented phase in the career of the famous charioteer Diocles, primus agitator of the red faction. It is also an opportunity to study the behaviour of the tifosi in the Circus maximus, especially because the stabula of the red faction have been recently identified in the southern part of the Campus Martius, and an inscription that mentions the Russatiani, i.e. the fans of the Red, has been found.
