Abstract. – At the beginning of century III B.C. the Babylonian Berossus composed a work in order to demonstrate to the Greek monarchs that were then governing Babylonia the antiquity of his country’s history. Berossus did not know that his work was going to achieve the recognition it was to get, first for the Jewish and Christian historians of late Antiquity and the Mediaeval Age and later for the scholar, Dominican Giovanni Nanni from Viterbo during the Renaissance. In this work we demonstrate the analogy between both characters and study the influence of (the fake Beroso) Nanni’s stories in the Spanish historiography, which concerns as much the contents than the methods.
