Résumé. – Cet article examine le cas de plusieurs poleis représentatives qui ont fluctué entre le camp des Romains et celui des Pontiques dans les différentes phases des guerres mithridatiques. D’un côté, on mettra l’accent sur les cas de Pergame, Mytilène, Éphèse et Cyzique, des villes engagées, dans une mesure plus ou moins grande, avec Mithridate VI Eupator, roi du Pont, mais qui ont finalement assumé la domination romaine après la Première Guerre Mithridatique. D’un autre côté, on accordera une attention particulière au cas d’Héraclée du Pont, une ville alliée des Romains depuis 188 av. J.-C., qui, cependant, a débuté un rapprochement avec le roi pontique à partir de 85 av. J.-C., qui a culminé au début de la Troisième Guerre Mithridatique.
Abstract. – This article analyses the case of some representative Anatolian poleis which fluctuated between Rome and the Pontic kingdom in the different phases of the Mithridatic Wars. Firstly, it will be focused the case of Pergamon, Mytilene, Ephesos and Cyzicos, which were involved with Mithridates VI Eupator, king of Pontus, in different degrees, but which finally assumed the Roman rule at the end of the First Mithridatic War. Then, it will be paid special attention to the case of Heraclea Pontica, a city allied to Rome since 188 BC, which began to tend to the Pontic king in 85 BC, a trend that culminated at the beginning of the Third Mithridatic War.
